維新ふるさと館［Museum of the Meiji Restoration］

明治維新や近代国家の基礎を作った人物を多く輩出している鹿児島の城下である加治屋町に位置しており、薩摩独特の教育制度「郷中教育」（ごじゅうきょういく）やそれぞれの偉人のエピソードを映像・パネル・ジオラマで学ぶことができます。

It is located in Kajiya-cho, where many famous historical figures who formed the basis of the Meiji Restoration and the modern nation were born such as Takamori Saigo and Iwao Ohyama. It introduces the unique educational system for the samurai “the Goju education ” of Satsuma and tells the story of the heroes of the restoration using videos, panels and dioramas.

西郷隆盛生誕の地［Birthplace of Takamori Saigo］

鹿児島の有名な偉人の一人である西郷隆盛は、1828年1月23日、7人兄弟の長男としてこの地に誕生しました。若くして藩主である島津斉彬（しまづなりあきら）に見出された西郷はその後日本を明治維新へと導くことになる重要な人物となりました。

Takamori Saigo was born as the first of the seven siblings on Jan 23, 1828 and he was recruited by Nariakira Shimadzu: the lords of Satsuma Domain when he was 27years old and went on to lead Japan to Meiji Restoration.
