| 城山展望台［Shiroyama Observatory Lookout］ |

| 高さ107mの展望台からは鹿児島市の中心部と桜島を一望できます。ここから眺めるパノラマは地中海沿岸の街並みに似ていることから”東洋のナポリ”と称されています。 |
| The observatory was built on a hill that is 107 meters high. It has panoramic views of the center of Kagoshima and Mt. Sakurajima. This is called “the Naples of the Orient”, thanks to the climate, the location, and the nearby presence of one of the world’s most famous active volcanoes; Sakurajima. |

| 西郷洞窟前［Saigo Cave］ |

| 明治10年（1877年）年2月、西南戦争において鹿児島城下を出発した薩軍は、九州各地で転戦したのち、8月に解散。その後西郷隆盛の一行は九州の山間地を越えて鹿児島を目指し、9月1日、再び城下に戻り、城山に立て籠もりました。 桐野利秋をはじめ私学校の幹部たちとともに、銃弾に倒れるまでの最期の5日間を過ごしたのがこの洞窟と言われています。西郷隆盛が最後まで薩軍の指揮をとっていた場所として重要な史跡です。 |

| 鶴丸城跡［Ruins of the Tsurumaru Castle］ |

| 1602年、島津家久（しまづいえひさ）によって築かれた城で、当時の「人をもって城となす」という方針から天守閣のない書院造りの綺麗な建物が立ち並んでいました。西南戦争や相次ぐ火災のため焼失し、現在はその跡だけ残存しています。2020年3月には焼失した城の正面中央にあった国内最大級の御楼門（ごろうもん）も復元されています。 |
| This castle was constructed by Iehisa Shimadzu in 1602 based on his belief that “If many people cooperate with each other, they can build a defensive castle.” Based on this premise, he established the “Shoin-zukuri”style of architecture which is one of Japan’s most important residential architectural styles. At that time, it had numerous buildings lined side-by-side. Unfortunately, most of them were burned down due to the Seinan War and the fires. The Goromon gate, one of the largest castle gates in Japan, located in front of the castle rebuilt in March 2021. |

| 多くの犠牲者を出しながらも洪水を繰り返す木曽三川（木曽・長良・揖斐）の治水工事を成し遂げた薩摩藩家老である平田靭負（ひらたゆきえ）を中心とした薩摩藩士の偉業を偲ぶ記念碑です。 |
| These are monuments to honor their great achievement to remember the flood control efforts by Satsuma feudal retainers. Yukie Hirata and overcame difficult conditions and numerous deaths to construct embankment works to stop troubling floods from the Kiso, Nagara, and Ibi rivers in Gifu Prefecture. |

| 西郷隆盛銅像［Statue of Saigo Takamori］ |

| 軍服・脱帽姿のこの像は陸軍大将時代に一晩中雨に濡れながら明治天皇の警護にあたっていたときの姿を表しています。1937年に完成したもので、その高さは5.7mあります。 |
| The statue depicts Takamori Saigo in his military uniform, but without his hat. The statue is meant to represent Takamori Saigo keeping guard for the “Meiji Emperor” while getting wet in the rain all night long. It is 5.7m high and it was made in 1937. |

| ザビエル公園［St. Francisco Xavier Park］ |

| ザビエル滞鹿記念碑や鹿児島上陸のきっかけを作ったヤジロウとザビエルの銅像があります。公園の向かい側にはザビエル教会があり徒歩で行くことができます。 |
| There are a monument of St. Xavier and a statue of Yajiro, the man who inspired St. Xavier to land in Kagoshima. There is also St. Xavier Church opposite the park, within walking distance. |

| 維新ふるさと館［Museum of the Meiji Restoration］ |

| 明治維新や近代国家の基礎を作った人物を多く輩出している鹿児島の城下である加治屋町に位置しており、薩摩独特の教育制度「郷中教育」（ごじゅうきょういく）やそれぞれの偉人のエピソードを映像・パネル・ジオラマで学ぶことができます。 |
| It is located in Kajiya-cho, where many famous historical figures who formed the basis of the Meiji Restoration and the modern nation were born such as Takamori Saigo and Iwao Ohyama. It introduces the unique educational system for the samurai “the Goju education ” of Satsuma and tells the story of the heroes of the restoration using videos, panels and dioramas. |

| 西郷隆盛生誕の地［Birthplace of Takamori Saigo］ |

| 鹿児島の有名な偉人の一人である西郷隆盛は、1828年1月23日、7人兄弟の長男としてこの地に誕生しました。若くして藩主である島津斉彬（しまづなりあきら）に見出された西郷はその後日本を明治維新へと導くことになる重要な人物となりました。 |
| Takamori Saigo was born as the first of the seven siblings on Jan 23, 1828 and he was recruited by Nariakira Shimadzu: the lords of Satsuma Domain when he was 27years old and went on to lead Japan to Meiji Restoration. |

| 石橋記念公園［Ishibashi Memorial Park］ |

| 江戸末期、鹿児島市の中心を流れる甲突川には5つのアーチ石橋が建造されていましたが、1993年の集中豪雨により2橋流出してしまいました。残りの「西田橋」を始めとする3橋を移設・復元し、記念館を設けたものがこの石橋記念公園です。なかでも「西田橋」は城下の表玄関として、篤姫（あつひめ）もお輿入れの際に渡ったといわれています。 |
| The five stone bridges were built in Kotsuki river in Edo period, but two bridges were washed away due to heavy rain in 1993. Nishida bridge and two bridges were removed and rebuilt in Ishibashi Memorial Park. Atsuhime went across Nishida bridge for her wedding. |

| 磯海水浴場［Iso Beach］ |

| 海水浴を楽しめるだけでなく、桜島を望みながら磯名物の「両棒（ぢゃんぼ）餅」を召し上がることもできます。両棒餅とはだんごにとろみのある砂糖醤油ダレをかけて2本の串にさした郷土料理です。 |
| At the beach, you can enjoy not only swimming but also eat “Jambo Mochi”:a local sweet made of rice cake with sweet sauce skewered by two bamboo sticks. Many Jambo Mochi shops can be found along the street, try them in the shop or on Iso beach viewing Mt. Sakurajima. |

| 仙巌園［Sengan-en］ |

| 鶴丸城の別邸として造られ、それぞれ桜島を築山に、錦江湾を池に見立てた鹿児島を代表する庭園です。島津斉彬（しまづなりあきら）によってこよなく愛され、また徳川将軍に嫁いだ篤姫（あつひめ）が足を運んだ地としても知られています。園内の御殿は迎賓館として利用されていました。 |
| Sengan-en was built in 1958 by the 2nd lord of the Satsuma feudal clan; 19th generation of the Shimadzu family. The garden uses a traditional garden design technique called “the borrowed scenery,” Mt. Sakurajima is used to resemble artificial hill, Kinko Bay is used to resemble pond. It is said to have been loved and frequented by Nariakira Shimadzu and Atsuhime:grew up in Kagoshima and married with Iesada Tokugawa. It also includes a villa that was used as a rural retreat for the Shimadzu family, whom to this day, owns it. |

| ＜旧集成館＞［Kyu-Shuseikan］ |

| 薩摩藩主第11代島津斉彬（しまづなりあきら）が富国強兵、殖産興業を目指して反射炉・機械工場を建設しました。現在、旧集成館機械工場は歴史資料館「尚古集成館」として島津家に関する様々な資料を展示しています。 |
| The Kyu-sheitan is an industrial complex built in 1851 by the 11th lord of the Satsuma feudal clan: 28th generations of the Shimadzu family. The facility was built to advance the economy and the military strength of the country. It incorporated a reverberatory furnace for casting cannons, glassworks, smithy, spinning mill and many other production facilities. The Shuseikan was recently designated an UNESCO world heritage site and the “Shoko Shuseikan” museum displays historical artifacts across the illustrious history of the Shimadzu family. |

| 異人館［Ijinkan(Foreigner’s residence)］ |

| 日本初の洋式紡績工場である鹿児島紡績所にて技術指導をしていたイギリス人技師が利用していた宿舎です。正式名称は「旧鹿児島紡績所技師館」で、その洋風な外観から異人館と呼ばれています。1966年に国の重要文化財に指定され、また2015年には世界文化遺産にも登録されています。 |
| It was built as a residential complex for British engineers who were invited over to Japan to assist in the spinning mill construction and management. This is officially known as “the Formerly Kagoshima spinning plant engineer Museum” and it is called the Ijinkan because of its western appearance. It was designated as an Important Cultural Property in 1966 and it was added to the World Heritage List in 2015. |

| 南洲墓地［Nanshu Cemetery］ |

| 西郷隆盛をはじめ桐野利秋（きりのとしあき）、村田新八（むらたしんぱち）など西南戦争で亡くなった陸軍兵士が埋葬されています。敷地内には西郷隆盛の偉業をたたえる西郷南洲顕彰もあります。 |
| This cemetery is a final resting place for Takamori Saigo and many other Satsuma troops who fought in Seinan War such as Toshiaki Kirino and Shinpachi Murata. The site also includes the Saigo Nanshu Memorial Museum, which pays tribute to Saigo and was established marking the 100th anniversary of his death in 1977. |

| 鹿児島の偉人の一人である大久保利通は高麗町に生まれ、7歳のときに西郷らのいる加治屋町へ家族と共に移住してきました。3歳年上の西郷隆盛とは同じ「郷中教育」を受けて育ちました。 |
| Toshimichi Okubo was born in Korai-cho moved to Kajiya-cho with his family when he was 7years old. He grew up through “the Goju education” that was a education system for the samurai, learned with Takamori Saigo who was 3years older than him. |
