| 鶴丸城の別邸として造られ、それぞれ桜島を築山に、錦江湾を池に見立てた鹿児島を代表する庭園です。島津斉彬（しまづなりあきら）によってこよなく愛され、また徳川将軍に嫁いだ篤姫（あつひめ）が足を運んだ地としても知られています。園内の御殿は迎賓館として利用されていました。 |
| Sengan-en was built in 1958 by the 2nd lord of the Satsuma feudal clan; 19th generation of the Shimadzu family. The garden uses a traditional garden design technique called “the borrowed scenery,” Mt. Sakurajima is used to resemble artificial hill, Kinko Bay is used to resemble pond. It is said to have been loved and frequented by Nariakira Shimadzu and Atsuhime:grew up in Kagoshima and married with Iesada Tokugawa. It also includes a villa that was used as a rural retreat for the Shimadzu family, whom to this day, owns it. |

| ＜旧集成館＞［Kyu-Shuseikan］ |

| 薩摩藩主第11代島津斉彬（しまづなりあきら）が富国強兵、殖産興業を目指して反射炉・機械工場を建設しました。現在、旧集成館機械工場は歴史資料館「尚古集成館」として島津家に関する様々な資料を展示しています。 |
| The Kyu-sheitan is an industrial complex built in 1851 by the 11th lord of the Satsuma feudal clan: 28th generations of the Shimadzu family. The facility was built to advance the economy and the military strength of the country. It incorporated a reverberatory furnace for casting cannons, glassworks, smithy, spinning mill and many other production facilities. The Shuseikan was recently designated an UNESCO world heritage site and the “Shoko Shuseikan” museum displays historical artifacts across the illustrious history of the Shimadzu family. |
